Result 1 - Conservation status of the East Usambara Forests upgraded by establishing East Usambara MAB Reserve

1.1 Prepare and submit application
1.1.1 Relevant supporting documents to enhance filling the Man and Biosphere (MAB) forms for declaring East Usambara Area Man and Biosphere Reserve will be done by the end of August 1999.
1.1.2 Relevant authorities and stakeholders for filling the MAB forms will be identified by the end of August 1999.
1.1.3 Data required for substantiating East Usambara Area to be declared MAB Reserve will be gathered by the end of October 1999.
1.1.4 The authorities and representatives of all stakeholders will endose the MAB forms for declaring East Usambara Area Man and Biosphere Reserve by the end of November 1999.
1.1.5 The forms for establishing East Usambara Man and Biosphere Reserve will be submitted to UNESCO by the end of December 1999.
1.2 Awareness Raising
1.2.1 The Project Design Team will visit Manyara and Ngorongoro National Park by September 1999 to learn the procedures of declaring an area MAB Reserve and how to manage MAB Area.
1.2.2 Two internal study tour will be organised by March 2000 for the representatives of all stakeholders in the area of East Usambara to be declared MAB Reserve to learn from other areas their role in managing the East Usambara Man and Biosphere Reserve and the importance of MAB Reserve to the communities.
1.2.3 One workshop will be organised by February 2000 for village chairmen, Secretaries, Ward and Division secretaries, MP's and heads of Institutions and Organisations within the area to be declared MAB Reserve to raise their awareness on the MAB Reserve.
1.2.4 One meeting for awareness raising will be conducted to each 30 villages out of 60 villages and 10 other communities within the area to be declared MAB Reserve to raise the awareness by the end of April year 2000.
1.2.5 Formal and informal meetings will be conducted with decision makers from District , Regional to Ministerial level on the establishment and management of the East Usambara MAB Reserve.
