Result 9 - Eco-tourism in the East Usambara Promoted.

9.1 Improve Eco-tourism infrastructure
9.1.1 The project will work closely with potential tour operators, hotel owners and investors and NGO's such as SNV - cultural tourism programme, International society for eco-tourism, etc. The project will identify most relevant collaborators by December 1999 and develop concrete means to develop eco-tourism in the East Usambara by May 2000.
9.1.2 The EU will be included in the Tanzania Tourist Master Plan and Tourist Map in order to promote conservation and tourism values of the area by April 2000.
9.1.3 The project will develop tourism information packages for East Usambara and advertise in the National Tourism Magazine and Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) by May 2000. Information of EU will be included in the Usambara Guide book, brochures published by SNV cultural tourism programme and local magazine. The Project website will be updated and connected to effective tour operators who sells Tanzania abroad by January 2000.
9.1.4 The furnishing plan for Zigi information centre and resthouse will be implemented by December 1999 to improve ecotourism in the Amani Nature Reserve. The Project will collaborate with distinct authorities and other stakeholders to improve Muheza Amani road for easy accessibility. Other visitors facilities including camping sites, drive routes, and walk trails will be developed and maintained.
9.1.5 The Project in collaboration with tour operators, hotelias in Tanga region, SNV-Lushoto and Tanga Municipal Council will identify areas to develop ecotourism in Tanga region by April 2000.
9.1.6 The project will hire consultant to lay down procedures and modalities of ecotourism development in the East Usambara and other parts of Tanga Region by December 1999.
9.2 Improved Local Livelihoods
9.2.1 Modalities of cost benefit sharing in conservation and eco-tourism promotion between stakeholders and the project will be developed and tested by May 2000.
