Survey and Inventory of Amani Botanical Garden - Results ABG boundaries Mapping A 1:5,000 map of the whole Amani Botanical Garden showing the external and internal boundaries and information was prepared. All ABG blocks and compartments were mapped and the position of the species in the compartments and some of the big plots were indicated by means of numbers on the maps. These were correspondingly marked in the field by temporary erected pegs (see attached MapĀ 2). This map will be completed by the Cartographic Sub-Unit of the Forestry and Beekeeping Division. The printed final copies should be coloured to add information and simplify the clarifications on compartment boundaries. Area calculation All the areas for 19 plantation blocks with their 131 compartments were completed (see attached Plantation Schedule in Table II.)
The whole Amani Botanical Garden is having a total area of 350 ha, distributed as follows: Gazetted area The total gazetted area of 244 ha consisted of Amani West Forest Reserve (145 ha) and Amani East Forest Reserve (99 ha). The break down of the area into classes is as follows:
Non-gazetted area The non-gazetted area, i.e. the remaining area in Amani, covered a total of 106 ha, distributed as follows:
Of this 106 ha, 62.4 ha are covered by the NIMR-ARC, and 43.6 ha are in the un-gazetted public land area. [ Contents ] |
