Acacia sieberana Mimosoideae
Propagation: Seedlings, wildings, direct seeding. Seed Info: Prolific seeder. Treatment: Soak in hot water and allow to cool for 24 hours. Storage: Seed can be stored if kept cool, dry and insect free. Management: Coppicing, pollarding. Remarks: The tree yields a clear gum of good quality suitable for ink making. Pods are eaten by cattle, buffalo, elephant, rhino and various antelopes. The leaves are browsed by game, but they contain quite large quantities of prussic acid at certain times, especially when wilted. The soft light wood is easy to work but not durable and of little value. |
