Current Duties:

As the National Remote Sensing Program Manager, Chuck plays a key role in the management and coordination of  remote sensing and geo-spatial data technology activities in the USDA Forest Service. His

responsibilities include: coordinating remote sensing activities within the Forest Service; investigating advanced aerospace, industrial, military, and other research developments in remote sensing; facilitating technology implementation of remote sensing applications; and providing remote sensing  technology support to international forestry programs.

Current responsibilities include:

Chuck represents the USDA on the Civil Applications Committee and GPS Interagency Advisory Council.  He represents the Forest Service on the National Aerial Photography Program  Steering Committee, the National Digital Ortho Photography  Steering Committee, and USDA Remote Sensing Coordination Committee.  Chuck is Chair of the Forest Service GPS Steering Committee.  He is the current Chair for the Remote Sensing Working Group of the Society of American Foresters (SAF).  He is also on the advisory committee of the United Nations Environmental Program, Global Resources Information Database.

Work Experience

Chuck began his Forest Service career in 1976 as an Entomologist with the Southern Region in Atlanta.  In 1985, he was assigned to manage special project GIS and advanced remote sensing operations in the Atlanta Regional Office. In 1991, Chuck moved to his current position as National Remote Sensing Program Manager in Washington, DC.

Chuck is currently the USDA representative on the  Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), Global Observation of Forest Cover and Disaster Management Support Projects,  and Global Disaster Information Network Working Group.

Chuck is a member of the Society of American Foresters, the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and several national and international professional working groups in forestry, remote sensing, and aviation.

He received a Master of Forestry Degree in Forest Protection from Duke University in 1975.
