Forest Health Monitoring - Project Letter Date: August 2000 TO: Eastern ARC Meeting Participants and Interested Parties
The second year of our project begins in East Africa in January. The Taita Hills, East Usambaras and Uluguru's will be used to describe land use change using remote sensing technology and monitor trends in forest health by the establishment and periodic measurement of permanent forest health plots. We need your help. Please be on the lookout for areas where trees seem to be sick, declining or dead. We are also interested in areas that have been harvested in the last five years and will be left to return to trees. In Kenya, please provide your information to Professor Joe Mwangi, in Tanzania, to Dr. Seif Madoffe. Please use the enclosed form (Eastern Arc Forest Health Report) to describe what you have observed and the location. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance with this important issue. Sincerely, Dr. Seif Madoffe
Professor Joe Mwangi
